A 4-year-old boy was swept away in a flooded Indiana creek after heavy rain hit the area.
The child was playing near Deer Creek in Delphi on Thursday before he began to struggle in the water and was carried away by the current, a witness told the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, according to FOX 59.
First responders began searching for the boy shortly after 6 p.m., using boats and sonar technology, but because of dangerous conditions. Officers say the search has now turned into a recovery effort.
“The family is extremely upset as we would expect and assume they are hoping and praying for the best,” police told the station. “They are asking for the community’s support in this tragic accident.”
