BREAKING: Judge Rules Sutherland Springs Church Mass Shooting Victims Can Sue the Federal Government for Negligence

A Texas judge has ruled that the victims of the Sutherland Springs church mass shooting can sue the federal government.

U.S. District Judge Xavier Rodriguez’s Thursday ruling allows them to put federal authorities on trial for alleged negligence. In most cases, it is impossible to sue the federal government due to sovereign immunity, but under the Federal Tort Claims Act, people can seek damages in limited cases if they can prove direct negligence on the part of the government.

The victims and their families say that the federal government acted negligently for failing to report the shooter’s history of criminal activity and mental health problems to an FBI database.
