A Broadway performer who had roles in “War Horse” and “The Phantom of the Opera” was found hanging from a Central Park overpass in the Upper West Side, according to police.
Harlan Bengel, 45, was discovered hanging with an orange cord from the Winterdale Arch near Central Park West and West 82nd Street by a passerby who called 911.
“He hung himself. Right off the railing at the edge of the arch,” a park worker said. “I saw a long orange cord. He had tied a plastic bag around his head, too.” Bengel and had a history of mental illness and left what investigators believe was a suicide note in his pocket.
