BREAKING: Tiger Attack Reported at Topeka Zoo

Topeka, Kansas, police are responding to the Topeka Zoo after reports of one person being attacked by a tiger. Shawnee County Dispatch was called just after 9:30 am Saturday morning after the attack. Authorities say the individual, whose name has not been released, is in critical condition.

The tiger, named Sanjiv, and the zookeeper were in the “same place” Saturday when he attacked her, said Molly Hadfield, a spokeswoman for the City of Topeka. “A few people did see the attack,” Hadfield said. The keeper appeared to be alert and awake and was in stable condition, Hadfield added. No one else was injured. The other tigers at the zoo were kept in holding, where they will be for the rest of the day, Hadfield said.

The zoo was closed for 45 minutes and has since been reopened.
