The man who claimed to be Timmothy Pitzen, a boy who went missing in 2011, has pleaded not guilty in federal court.
Brian Michael Rini, 23, of Medina, Ohio, appeared in court today to face charges of making false statements to federal officials. The man reportedly set up the hoax earlier this month, when residents spotted him in a Kentucky neighborhood, reportedly acting suspiciously.
When police interview him, he claimed to be Timmothy, although DNA tests later proved that he was not. Timmothy would now be 14 years old. Rini told investigators he learned of the boy’s 2011 disappearance from an episode of ABC’s “20/20.”
If convicted, he faces up to 8 years in prison.
