Allan Byer, a principal owner of the San Francisco Giants and a leading California apparel manufacturer has died at the age of 91.
Byer was born in Cincinnati in 1927, graduated from Ohio State University’s School of Business in 1949, and then served in the Navy. In 1964, he founded clothing manufacturer Byer California, a supplier of girls fashion sportswear and dresses to department stores.
He was also one of a group of investors that bought the Major League Baseball franchise from Bob Lurie in 1992. His sons will reportedly continue his active role in the ownership group.
