The City of Chicago, Illinois, is reportedly suing “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett over this year’s earlier incident.
Chicago is calling for Smollett to repay the cost of police overtime that was incurred while they investigated his hate crime claim. The city claims that they paid out over $130,000 to officers to investigate what they later called a false claim.
Smollett had reported to police that he was the victim of a racist, homophobic attack in Streeterville in January. However, after weeks of investigation, the CPD determined that Smollett created the scheme because he was dissatisfied with his salary on “Empire.”
