Embattled Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has reportedly stepped down from his position.
The report comes as the Algerian Defense Ministry aggressively called Tuesday for Bouteflika to quit “immediately.” The defense ministry controls Algeria’s army and said that there was “no time to waste” after six weeks of protests against Bouteflika.
Bouteflika, 82, has been in office for 20 years. He suffered a stroke in 2013 and has been rarely seen in public since that medical issue. On Monday he stated that he would resign by the end of his fourth term on April 28th.
