Measles Cases Continuing to Rise in the U.S.

At least 314 cases of measles have been reported in the U.S. this year, as the disease continues to be on the rise, the CDC says.

This year’s number is 58 shy of the total from 2018, the second highest number in the past two decades. The disease was eliminated in the United States in 2000, but has recently seen a resurgence after unvaccinated people visited other countries where it is endemic.

Health officials say that measles cases this year have been reported in 15 states, the same number as last week: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Texas and Washington.
