Authorities are evacuating the low-lying part of St. Joseph, Missouri, as the Missouri River has crested at near-record levels.
The evacuations began late Friday morning as the river crested at levels less than a foot shy of record heights. More than 100 people are continuing to sandbag an area of levee that protects the Missouri Air National Guard and Rosencrans Airport.
Across the Missouri River, around 1,200 residents in Elwood, Kansas, had to evacuated as well. Several communities in Kansas have had their power cut off due to the flooding.
