Citizens’ Social Security Numbers Possible Exposed in Oregon Data Breach

A data breach of an Oregon agency tasked with welfare programs and foster care may have exposed the personal information of an undisclosed amount of citizens.

The data possible exposed includes Social Security numbers, names, dates of birth, and case numbers. The information was breached after nine employees clicked into links on phishing emails, giving access to their data files to hackers.

The agency is now checking to see how many people may have been affected, but there has yet to be any indication that the information has been used for nefarious purposes.
