Orangutan Blinded and Unable to Return to the Wild After Being Shot by an Air Gun At Least 74 Times

An endangered Orangutan in Indonesia is now in the care of a veterinarian after she was shot at least 74 times by an air gun.

An x-ray showed 74 pellets inside the animal’s body, including four in its left eye and two in the right, leaving it blinded. The Orangutan, nicknamed “Hope,” also had several open wounds believed to have been caused by sharp objects.

“Hope” underwent surgery on her collarbone and is recovering.
