Facebook Reaches Settlement Over Discrimination Claims

Facebook has reached a settlement with civil rights and labor groups that say they enabled discrimination in their ads for housing, employment, and credit.

As part of the settlement, the company will introduce changes to its ad platform that prevent advertisers for housing, employment or credit from discriminating for several suspect classes. This will include creating a separate portal for advertising in these sectors across all Facebook platforms.

The CWA and the ACLU filed charges with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission against Facebook and 10 other employers last September, saying that their advertisements helped employers exclude female candidates.
