A 19-year-old woman involved in a traffic stop reportedly committed suicide while her hands were cuffed behind her, but her family has expressed doubts in the validity of the story.
Sarah Wilson and her boyfriend were arrested during a stop in Chesapeake, Virginia, last July after police reportedly found drugs in their vehicle. Wilson had been cuffed first, however her boyfriend became combative towards police before he ran off from the area.
While police ran after him, Wilson reportedly was able to grab a gun from the car and contorted her body to shoot herself through the mouth, killing her. A medical examiner confirmed that the death was a suicide, however, her family has publicly said that they do not believe the story and think that she was shot, as Wilson had never been known to own or operate a gun previously.
No bodycam footage of the incident exists, as it was reportedly knocked off the officer’s torso during the struggle.
