An emergency medical technician in South Carolina was fined and his EMT certificate was suspended for allegedly taking a photo of a suicide victim with his cellphone and posting it on Facebook.
Trevor Sizemore, of Greenwood County, had been accused of taking the photo while responding to a call of a person with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He allegedly uploaded the image to his FB page and didn’t edit out the victim’s face. The Department of Health and Environmental Control board determined that Sizemore had “committed misconduct by failing to comply with the confidentiality provisions of the state EMS Act, which state that the identity of a patient must be treated as confidential” and decided to punish him this week. Sizemore agreed to pay a $500 fine and his EMT certificate was suspended for three months.
