A man in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, reportedly died of natural causes after stabbing his mother 74 times inside her home.
Police say they believe 86-year-old Margaret Montgomery Gibson was killed by her son, 58-year-old Eric Dana Gibson on October 12, 2017. However, according to a newly released autopsy report, the coroner says that the suspect, Eric, died of natural causes shortly after stabbing her to death.
Gibson was found with a knife in his hand and in a prone position next to his dead mother in the bathroom of their home. The official report says that he died of “hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease” with obesity listed as a contributing factor, but the manner of death was considered natural. Gibson had a history of schizophrenia.
