Former New York Mets pitcher and Major League Baseball legend Tom Seaver has reportedly been diagnosed with dementia.
The announcement came via a statement by Seaver’s family, who added that the prolific pitcher would be retiring from public life. Seaver, a Hall of Famer, will retire to his California home, where he will continue tending to his vineyard.
He pitched from 1967 to 1986, but he is known primarily for his time with the Mets, especially his role in the team’s 1969 World Championship. Through his career Seaver earned several nicknames such as “Tom Terrific” and “The Franchise.”
