Arizona Senator Martha McSally, a former Air Force pilot, says that an officer raped her during her time in the military branch.
McSally served 26 years in the Air Force, where she became the first female fight pilot to fly in combat. She made the disclosure during a Senate hearing on sexual assault allegations in the military.
McSally says that she did not report the incident, which occurred with a superior officer, because she did not trust the system, and was ashamed and confused. She did not name the officer that she says raped her. McSally added that she shares in the disgust of the failures of the system and commanders in addressing allegations of sexual assault.
