New York DWI Prevention Coordinator Fired After Driving Under the Influence of Cocaine

A DWI coordinator in Oneida County, New York, has been fired after police say he drove under the influence of cocaine.

Thomas Giruzzi, 54, was stopped Tuesday after a deputy observed him driving without a seatbelt on and talking on his cell phone. After he was pulled over, he was found to be in possession of cocaine and was charged with a DWI.

“It is my hope that Tom finds the help he needs at this time,” Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente said. “Substance abuse is a serious disease that can affect anyone regardless of their personal or professional circumstances. The STOP DWI Office is mission critical to educating the public on the ill effects of driving while under the influence and making destructive decisions. I will seek to fill that position as soon as possible.”
