A United States Coast Guard Officer has been arrested after investigators found gun and a hit list comprised of prominent lawmakers and media figures.
Christopher Paul Hasson, who was arrested last week, appeared in court today, where federal prosecutors outlined the charges brought against him. In court, prosecutors called the gun and drug charges that Hasson was originally arrested on the “proverbial tip of the iceberg.”
Prosecutors, in their court filing, called Hasson a “domestic terrorist,” who had been espousing extremist views for years. In September 2017, Hasson sent himself a draft letter that he had written to a neo-Nazi leader and “identified himself as a White Nationalist for over 30 years and advocated for ‘focused violence’ in order to establish a white homeland,” prosecutors wrote.
Inside the basement of Hasson’s Maryland home, federal agents found 15 guns, including several rifles, as well as at least 30 bottles of a substance labeled as human growth hormone. Hasson also had been compiling a list of prominent Democrats included House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, and presidential hopefuls Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand, Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker and Kamala Harris.
In this Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, there were mentions of John Podesta, who was Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman, along with Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Maxine Waters, former Rep. Beto O’Rourke, MSNBC’s Chris Hayes and Joe Scarborough and CNN’s Chris Cuomo and Van Jones, according to the court filing.
