A New Jersey man was arrested after committing a burglary and mistaking a police car for the Lyft that he called as a getaway.
28-year-old Nicholas Maziot, who is homeless, jumped from the home’s second story to what he believed was his getaway car. However, it turned out to be a “ghost car” that police were responding in, a car that otherwise looks like a typical civilian vehicle.
Once inside the the vehicle, police were able to arrest Maziot quickly. He confessed to the crime, saying that he believed the house to be empty when he broke in, but tried to escape once he realized he woke up a couple inside.
Maziot was charged with burglary, criminal mischief, attempted theft, possession of burglary tools, trespassing and hindering apprehension.
