Over 100 people are dead in Northeastern India after they reportedly drank bootleg alcohol that had been tainted.
Many of the victims complained of respiratory and stomach pains before succumbing to their illness. Police have since arrested four people in connection to the deaths.
Bootleg alcohol is common in the region, as many people are unable to afford name-brand alcohol. Doctors in several of the cases believe that the alcohol led to “liver infection and problems in their respiratory systems.” The exact cause of the issue found inside the alcohol is not known.
