Doctors at a hospital in South America are being investigated for negligence after a premature newborn baby was burned to death in an improvised hospital incubator.
The 15-year-old mother gave birth to the child at 32 weeks of pregnancy at a hospital in Bolivia. According to local media, there were no available incubators at the hospital, so the staff allegedly improvised with a makeshift one using a domestic heater, according to the baby’s aunt.
The mother said she heard her newborn boy “howling” before doctors told her that the lights had burned him. They sent the baby to another medical center where he died. The local authorities are investigating the hospital for negligence.
