A Florida man who is unable to swim reportedly jumped into a lake while fleeing police in Sarasota County, Florida.
Richard Garay was approached by authorities after they were called to the area due to suspicious activity. When they tried to talk to him, he immediately ran in an attempt to escape.
They chased him to a lake, where he was seen jumping in, but it quickly became clear that he was unable to swim. A deputy was seen jumping into the green water to help the man, pulling him back to shore using a yellow rope thrown in after them. Garay reportedly had several warrants out for his arrest.
He was charged with obstruction without violence and contempt of court for a charge of driving without a license and leaving the scene of an accident for damage greater than $50 without leaving his information. Garay also reportedly thanked the first responders for saving him when he was discharged from the hospital.
