Up to 30 Dogs Killed in Fire at Chicago Kennel

As many as 30 dogs have died in a fire at a suburban Chicago kennel and about two dozen dogs were rescued.

Authorities say a sheriff’s deputy on patrol spotted the fire around 5:30 a.m. Monday at D&D Kennels near West Chicago. The building held about 50 rescue dogs. Carol Stream Fire District Chief Bob Hoff said a lot of the dogs were in cases and some were tied up. He said three firefighters were treated for dog bites.

The DuPage County Fire Investigation Task Force is investigating the cause of the fire, which authorities say doesn’t appear to be suspicious.
