Former Louisiana State University football player Matt Branch has had his leg amputated after a dog accidentally shot him before him and a group were to begin hunting.

Branch, a former offensive lineman, and a group of friends were going hunting in Mississippi when the incident occurred. The group was reportedly getting ready to head out to step up, when the Labrador retriever named Tito jumped into he vehicle’s bed, moving around trying to find a place to sit.

At some point, Tito stepped on Branch’s shotgun, firing it out of the vehicle, and striking him in the thigh. The group immediately loaded him in and called 911, taking him to a road that would be accessible by emergency crews.

Unfortunately, Branch lost a substantial amount of blood during the incident, and his leg needed to be amputated at the hospital. Otherwise, he is expected to fully recover.
