Authorities in Northern California are searching for a gunman Wednesday after a police officer was shot and killed during a traffic stop, according to officials. The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department said that Newman Police Officer Ronil Singh, 33, was shot and killed during a traffic stop just before 1 a.m. on Wednesday.
Singh reported initiating a traffic stop shortly before 1 a.m. in Newman, located about 80 miles east of San Jose, police said. A few minutes after responding, he called out “shots fired” over the radio. Officials are looking for a grey, extended cab Dodge Ram pickup the suspect may be driving.
