An Alaskan mayor and her mother were killed after a tour bus struck them while they were in Washington, D.C., for a tour of the White House.
Skagway, Alaska, native and Mayor Monica Adams Carlson, 61, and 85-year-old Cora Louise Adams were killed in a crosswalk when a tour bus struck the two, seriously injuring both. The two women were rushed to the hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries.
Police have not identified the bus driver and did not say if they would be charged. Carlson and her mother came to the nation’s capitol after arranging for a tour of the White House through Senator Dan Sullivan.
Carlson was elected in a write-in campaign in 2017 and had one more year left in her term.
