At least 6 children are dead and 12 more are sickened after a viral outbreak at a New Jersey rehabilitation center.
The state Department of Health on Tuesday confirmed 18 cases of adenovirus at the Wanaque Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. The virus normally causes mild symptoms, but this outbreak is considered severe because it was affecting medically fragile children.
It is described as being very contagious, and the center is not being allowed to accept new patients until the outbreak has cleared. The state health department is working with the center to limit the spread of the disease.
