Legendary Philadelphia Eagles safety and former Pro-Bowler Wes Hopkins has died at the age of 57.
Hopkins’ death was announced by his agent and two former teammates. Hopkins was a vital part of the Eagles defense in the late 80s and early 90s, widely known as one of the hardest-hitting safeties in the NFL. Hopkins had a serious knee injury in 1986, but still managed to return to a high playing level for the Eagles.
He retired from football in 1993. Earlier this year, Hopkins was also inducted into the SMU Athletics Hall of Fame. It is not clear what caused his death.
