Joseph “Joe Exotic” Maldonado-Passage, 55, a well-known owner of an exotic animal zoo and a former Oklahoma gubernatorial candidate, has been indicted in a murder-for-hire plot.
He is accused of hiring an unnamed person to carry out a hit on an unidentified woman in Florida in 2017. He is also accused of offering the money for her murder in 2016 as well. U.S. Marshals arrested him earlier today, bringing him to his initial court appearance.
If Maldonado-Passage is found guilty he could be imprisoned up to 10 years on each count and would also be subject to up to three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000 per count.
