University of Arizona head football coach Kevin Sumlin announced that linebacker and Texas A&M transfer Santino Marchiol has been dismissed.
The dismissal comes after a video surfaced Friday that had a Texas A&M player describe his black teammates using the word “monkey.” The player was likely Marchiol, and the dismissal appears to confirm this.
Marchiol had previously accused Texas A&M staff of NCAA violations, including giving money to potential recruits. He also stated that he was forced to play through an ankle injury.
For those unfamiliar, a video surfaced Friday in which someone, likely Marchiol, can be heard using the word "monkey" to describe black teammates at Texas A&M. The decision by Sumlin and the U of A essentially confirms what the video and narration suggested.
