A woman in Towson, Maryland, was shocked when doctors came into her delivery room while she was in labor and told her that she tested positive for opioids.
The source of the opioids was a poppy seed bagel that mother Elizabeth Eden had eaten the morning before she came to the hospital. As a result of the positive test, Eden was reported to the state, who assigned a case worker to her.
Her daughter had to be held at the hospital for 5 extra days and the case worker launched an investigation into her home. The worker quickly validated the new mother’s case, confirming that the positive test had been a mistake.
