BREAKING: Powerful Earthquake Strikes Indonesia

Authorities in Indonesia issued a tsunami alert on Sunday after a massive earthquake rocked the popular tourist mecca of Bali. The United States Geological Survey said the magnitude 7.0 quake was reported around 11:46 a.m. off the island of Loloan, located next to Bali. 

5:40 p.m. ET: The death toll has risen to 82.

10:16 a.m. ET: Indonesian official tells MetroTV that at least three people have been killed after strong quake strikes Lombok island – AP

9:40 a.m. ET: Indonesia’s BMKG (the Meteorology, Climatology, Geophysics Agency) has lifted the tsunami warning after the Lombok earthquake. According to BMKG, there have been 16 aftershocks.

9:18 a.m. ET: Damage reported throughout Bali.

9:01 a.m. ET: WARNING STRONG LANGUAGE

7:48 a.m ET: Model and cookbook author Chrissy Teigen, who is currently on vacation in Bali with husband John Legend and two children, said on Twitter it was a “massive” earthquake.  (Source)

7:35 a.m ET: The quake was about 6.5 miles deep, according to the USGS. Indonesia’ Tsunami Early Warning System issued an alert, saying that there was the “potential” for a tsunami to take place.
