A North Carolina woman is charged with animal cruelty after she tied a puppy to a truck and drove around in a parking lot until it was dead, according to Selma police. The incident happened July 5 at the Knights Inn according to police. Gloria Mitchell was booked in the Johnston County Jail following the incident.
“She was already hitting and abusing that puppy,” said witness Vikki Latner. Latner said she was about to call police when she saw Mitchell tie the puppy to her front bumper and take off. “I started hollering for everyone to stop her because she’s dragging her puppy.”
Only when a guest at the motel got in front of her vehicle did Mitchell stop driving. Then she put the truck in reverse and hit the gas, crashing into two U-Haul trucks. Then when police and EMS arrived, Mitchell, 45, acted “hostile and aggressive,” according to the police report.
Mitchell had a blood-alcohol level of .347, according to the police report.
