State of Emergency Declared in Florida

A state of emergency in Florida has been declared by Governor Rick Scott due to toxic algae outbreaks.

The outbreaks have plagued both coasts of Florida, causing serious concerns about water quality in the area. The declaration allows agencies and regulators to waive restrictions and regulations in the area in order to move water around to different areas of lakes.

Governor Scott has repeatedly placed the blame of the toxic algae on the federal government, saying that the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers has neglected repairs and restoration efforts, as well as water releases.
