At least 42 people have been injured after an explosion at a campaign rally for Zimbabwe’s President.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa was not injured in the explosion. Local authorities are calling the act an assassination attempt, and Mnangagwa called it a “cowardly act.” He went on to vow that Zimbabwe will still hold their first election since former strongman Robert Mugabe’s ouster.
Of the 42 injured, 6 of them were seriously injured. Mnangagwa’s rise to power has been resisted by Mugabe loyalists, who say that he betrayed their former leader.
