A student at Harbor Teacher Preparation Academy was reportedly allowed to wear a KKK outfit after a teacher approved it for a history project.
The outfit has since sparked outcry from students and parents at the high school. The freshman student was reportedly doing a history project on Hiram Wesley Evans, a former imperial wizard of the KKK. He asked his teacher to present with a costume as well, which was common for the project.
What caused much of the outcry, however, was that the student continued to wear the costume throughout the day and other classes, causing a great deal of discomfort for his peers.
LAUSD released the following statement:
“L.A. Unified and Harbor Teacher Preparation Academy understand the extreme sensitivity around this issue and do not condone or support this type of re-enactment.”
