Man Sentenced to 90 Days of House Arrest for Statutory Rape of a Child; will serve no jail time

A wealthy businessman from Stockton, California, has been sentenced to 90 days of house arrest and 5 years of informal probation for the statutory rape of a 5-year-old after pleading no contest.

79-year-old Lyle Burgess will also not have to filed as a sex offender. The incident dates back to 2016, when Burgess allegedly sexually assaulted the girl after her and her family were invited to his cabin. Since the incident, the girl, now 7, has undergone extensive therapy and counseling and likely will for some time.

The low sentencing was reportedly given due to Burgess’ age and health. The girl and her family have filed a civil suit against him as well.
