Officials have voiced concerns after a report from state health authorities showed that STDs in the state are at an all-time high.

In particular, officials are worried about congenital syphilis, which has led to a spike in stillbirths. More than 300,000 cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis were reported in 2017, a 45 percent increase from 5 years ago. 30 stillbirths were also reported in that timespan as a result of the STDs; the highest number since 1995.

The health department is reportedly conducting a “multi-pronged” effort to educate the public about the risks and get the word out to medical providers about the latest advances in screening and treatment.
