Officials say that Idaho State University is missing about a gram of weapons-grade plutonium.

The plutonium is about the size of a quarter. U.S. officials are proposing a fine if the radioactive material is not found. Experts say that the plutonium couldn’t be used to make a nuclear weapon,  but could be used to manufacture a dirty bomb to spread radiation.

The material reportedly went missing back in October, but the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission released a statement today regarding the issue. The university has not commented.
