A 13-year-old boy in Vermont has chosen to highlight gun control in his platform, according an interview he gave with CNN.
Ethan Sonneborn, who declared his campaign last year, calls for stricter gun laws in the state of Vermont, where there are no age requirements for gubernatorial candidates. In the interview, Sonneborn emphasized that he respects the hunting culture in Vermont, however, he says, “But if it’s making the decision between letting my friends have a good time at a firing range and them possibly being involved in a school shooting, I’m choosing legislation to protect them from that school shooting.”
Thus far, Conor Casey, executive director of the Democratic party in in Vermont, says that the biggest problems Sonneborn has struggled with has been balancing him campaign with school and not being able to drive.
“I’ll admit when I first heard about a 13-year-old running, I thought, ‘Is this some kid from “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,” spoiled?’ But that’s not the case,” Casey said.
