Groupon, an online discounting site, faced widespread outrage after a product on their site used the “n-word” to describe footwear.
The racial slur was being used to describe the color of a pair of boots. The ad was being shown for a third-party seller, and has been taken down since. The seller has also been removed from the site.
“We are appalled that this language was displayed on our site,” said Bill Roberts, the vice-president of Global Communications for Groupon, “This product description was provided by a third-party seller via our self-service platform. Regardless, this is completely unacceptable and violates our policies – to say nothing of our values.”
