An Alabama lawmaker took an interesting stance on gun issues Thursday, saying that we shouldn’t arm teachers because “in most schools, women are (the majority) of the teachers.”
Republican State Rep. Harry Shiver said that most women are “scared of guns” and therefore should not be trusted with a firearm. He made the comments during a meeting of the Public Safety Committee, saying that we needed to protect women in this way.
Shiver has been a vocal opponent of arming teachers in Alabama. He has said that teacher would not be qualified to interject themselves into “hot” situations such as an active shooter. Additionally, he stated that police would have a harder time identifying the suspect.
