A 5.5 magnitude earthquake has struck 78 miles from the island Honshu, the main island of Japan.
The quake struck at a depth of 60 km and was just off the coast near Fukushima. Authorities say there is no threat of a tsunami for the region. The quake occurred at roughly 1:30 am local time (11:40 a.m. EST). It was felt in several cities including Tokyo and Fukushima.
It is currently unknown as to whether there was any damage to buildings or injuries caused by the event.
