A proposed Illinois law would ban children under the age of 12 from playing tackle football.
The law, named the Dave Duerson Act after the former Chicago Bear, would ban all children under 12 from participating in the organized youth sport. Duerson was a successful NFL player who later had medical problems. After his suicide in 2011, he was found to have CTE in his brain, possibly being the cause for his problems.
The bill has already received mixed reviews from parents, with some praising the protection of children, and others saying that it is a large government overstep.
