#BREAKING: Senator Al Franken to Resign

Senator Al Franken is expected to resign tomorrow, according to a Democratic official who has spoken to Franken and his aides.

Franken’s resignation has been called for by many of his colleagues after multiple allegations of sexual harassment, and weeks of speculation regarding his future in the Senate. His resignation would mean that DFL Governor Mark Dayton would name a successor, who would serve until the 2018 election. At that time, the people of Minnesota would choose someone to fill Franken’s remaining two years. (source) 5:05 p.m. December 6, 2017

Senator Franken has refuted the reports, saying that he is still discussing it with his family, and that no final decision has been made. (source) 5:21 p.m. ET December 6, 2017
