#BREAKING: Rand Paul Injured in Assault at Kentucky Home

The Hill reports that Rand Paul was assaulted by a man at his Bowling Green, Kentucky, home, sustaining minor injuries.

Police have arrested the man, 59-year-old Rene Bousher, from Bowling Green. When police arrived, they discovered that the man had intentionally assaulted Paul.


  • The man who assaulted Paul was an Anesthesiologist who was an acquaintance of Paul, per WBKO. They also report that the FBI is investigating the issue to see if the assault was politically motivated. (3:41 p.m. ET)
  • “A neighbor told WNKY said that Paul was mowing his lawn at the time of the assault. According to the neighbor, Senator Paul and Boucher have had ongoing problems. Senator Paul and Boucher share a corner adjacent to their homes,” per WAVE-TV (8:15 p.m. ET)
  • The arrest warrant states that Paul suffered injuries to his face and had difficulty breathing due to “a blow to the ribs.”
  • Paul suffered five broken ribs and lung contusions (11:30 p.m. ET November 5)

UPDATE: The man accused of assaulting Rand Paul has been formally charged with assaulting a member of Congress, which is a felony. He is expected to plead guilty. Court documents say that Boucher saw Paul “stack brush onto a pile near (his) property and ‘had enough.'” (source) 5:49 p.m. ET January 19, 2018
