BARCELONA, SPAIN (ALBOENEWS) — Catalonian President Carles Puigdemont, in addressing the Catalonian parliament, has stated that Catalan will secede from Spain, reports The Guardian.
Though Spanish leaders have previously stated that independence will not be permitted, Puidgemont says Catalonia will move toward leaving Spain. He has suspended the outcome of the Oct. 1 referendum in order to pursue independence talk with the Spanish government.
Puidgemont says Catalonia desires a peaceful path to realizing independence and asserts his desire for open communication with Spanish leaders.
It remains to be seen what action Spain’s government will make in response.
