NEW ZEALAND (ALBOENEWS) — A large 6.1 magnitude earthquake has struck off of the Aucklund Islands in New Zealand, according to USGS.

The earthquake struck at 8:43 p.m. ET, 1:43 a.m. UTC. The epicenter was 371 miles SW of Bluff, New Zealand.

UPDATE: The USGS PAGER service says there is a 29% chance of fatalities resulting from this earthquake.
